Hi! John,
“I enjoyed the hands-on experience your Value Engineering workshop provided in developing the Functional Analysis, Function Cost Matrix and the FAST diagram. Basing the workshop on actual projects, provided a ‘true’ & effective industry experience of Value Engineering exercise. “
I loved your workshop, participants mix and the content. I actually tried developing the FAST in one of my workshop last week. The Function Analysis was more effective in my workshops & I used it for both the VE workshops.
Thanks a bunch!

John
I´m really happy about the AVS. The course have been very good. I think that I learn a lot specially about FAST diagram.
I have to thank you and the others pupils because the patient you have been in relationship with my poor English.
I think I have a better the knowledge on Fundamentals than on FAST. I felt more sure about the basic concepts than about FAST.
Just in case you need anything from this part of the world do not hesitate to contact me. To collaborate with you, or others specialists, in a VE Workshop, will be a pleasure.,
My regards to your assistance and my best wishes for you
Respectfully

Subject: Commendation
The Value Management workshop that Value Based Design offered between October 26-29 of 2009, in Lincolnshire, Illinois, was extremely valuable to me. The Instructor, John S, has many years of varied experience in this field and came across as a very engaging tutor during the workshop. Right from teaching the basics of the VM approach to discussing the complex approaches, he displayed a great deal of knowledge and understanding and delivered the contents of those topics with plenty of energy. In short, it is a time well spent or shall I say the workshop by VBD is worth more than what it costs.

Subject: Minneapolis Module 1
I recently completed the SAVE Certified Module 1 Workshop & AVS exam under the instruction of John S. The workshop's location and facilities provided travel convenience, cost appropriate hotel accommodations, and a suitable classroom environment. The instructor's workshop strictly followed SAVE Module 1 course requirements, but also included time in which which instructor and participants shared real life experiences, making the course even more relevant and meaningful. I entered the course with some knowledge, but also confusion, in how to best use the techniques. During the workshop's second day, the "light bulb turned on" and I understood how the FAST diagram, Function Cost/Worth tools, and overall Job Plan could be applied to my own company's products and processes. The course materials and instruction thoroughly prepared me for the AVS Exam taken at the end of the course, i.e., I passed. The opportunity to learn SAVE Module I from a well qualified instructor and the interaction with other VM professionals was invaluable.
Best regards,
Ray

Value Based Design:
"In my 30 years of engineering, project management, corporate management & investment experience around the world, I thought I had a full toolbox to handle most any problem well. The instructor's Value Engineering certification class opened up a truly new way of engineering analysis & approach I have rarely seen actually practiced by my government or private sector customers. The Function & Worth analysis has given me practical new tools to improve an already excellent VE program at my aerospace & defense company. Four days well spent!!"

Subject: Denver Module I Comments
My experience with Module I was far beyond my expectations. The lectures were informative and engaging, and built really well on one another to give us the "full picture" of Value Management. I had participated in several VE studies prior to taking the workshop, but the mock study conducted during the workshop was much more dynamic than my previous experiences. I left the class with a renewed excitement for my pursuit of a CVS certification and new ideas for incorporating value methodology into my organization.

Subject: Feedback for Module I Training
The training in Value Management Theory (Module I) will prove to be an invaluable tool in our continuing quest for improving value for our customers. Our instructor, John S, is well versed in Value Engineering methodology and its practical applications. The presented course material was well organized and the service exemplary in courtesy and professionalism. The process of functional analysis has already changed our thinking when looking at current and future projects. The AVS certification obtained at the end of the program is a testament to John's teaching style and coverage of materials.

Subject: New Product VE Workshop
Value Management for new products is an excellent process to achieve increased creativity and a reduction in total product cost. Learning how to look at a parts function rather than the part itself opens new avenues to increased creativity and lower product costs. This process accelerates the new product introduction cycle and focuses on real creativity that leapfrogs the competition.
Upon completion of the Value Management process you will learn the following:
- Starting with the right team is essential.
- The time breaks factored into the program are essential to achieve creative results.
- Doors that are sometimes hard to open will open to assist with the VM process.
- An outside supplier participating in the process that knows your product is a real asset to the team.
- Having an outside facilitator is a must. John’s creative focus and innovative approach kept the ball rolling and the ideas flowing.
The results we obtained through the Value Management process greatly exceeded our expectations. I heartily endorse the use of VM for all new and existing product programs to increase creativity,
reduce costs and accelerate the new product development cycle.

I just wanted to thank you for the outstanding job you did on the Mod 1 training session. I learned a great deal of information, and developed greater insight into the entire VE process. Although I had participated in various VE studies before, the Mod 1 workshop and your instruction has provided me with additional appreciation of the VE process.
Thanks

What's New 1

This recent Module 1 workshop was located in the DC area (Alexandria) in September 2007. It was comprised of a team analyzing an Environmental Superfund project stepping through the various phases of the Job Plan. The lecture portion addressed all phases of the VE Job Plan including Function Analysis, Cost/Worth and FAST diagramming. All passed the AVS exam. Actual participant testimonals:

Dear John,
I have been in the design business for over 20 years. My experience included the United States, Canada, & the Middle East. I thought I have learned all the available methods to optimize design. But this class was an eye-opener that showed me new ways to optimize my design despite the extensive international design experience.
I was really great meeting you, and I hope that our paths cross again (like Mod2).

What's New 2

A recent (7.21.2007-Seattle) transportation Module 1 workshop team in the midst of function identification. This is an important prelude to a successful creativity phase and is not treated lightly during our sessions. The brain needs time to subconsciously analyze the problem to foster real creative solutions. A hurried approach generates few new ideas. Here are actual testimonals from workshop participants:
July 30, 2007
I went into the workshop seeking certification but came away with so much more. John S provided just the right balance of teaching and hands-on learning by experience in a mock VE setting. As an experienced value specialist, he led us smoothly along the how-why path of every element of the SAVE VE process. It was gratifying to be able to work on a real transportation project (VDOT Route 7100) and to come away with the feeling that we had provided VDOT with something of real value for our effort. Having completed John’s Mod 1 class I now feel better prepared and more confident to assist my clients in value engineering their projects.
